Somerset Local Plan Scoping Consultation 2026
Somerset Council has opened the first formal consultation on the new Somerset Local Plan, running from Friday 19 June to Friday 24 July 2026.

This marks the start of preparing a Local Plan under the updated national plan‑making system, so the format of the consultation may differ from previous exercises.
Somerset Council is inviting comments on several early elements of the plan, including:
The matters the Local Plan should cover
- How the Council should engage with communities
- The proposed vision and outcomes
- The hierarchy of settlements
- Initial spatial strategy options
- The draft Sustainability Appraisal of those options
This stage does not include any proposed development sites. Feedback received will help shape the direction and content of the new Somerset Local Plan.
